Now available on YouTube, Odyssey is a new 17-minute mini-documentary that looks at longer DJ sets and asks if playing extended sets is an artform that's in danger of being lost.

DJ Times’ Miami Music Week Party Guide 2017

Story By Chris Caruso of djtimes.com

With the last throes of winter finally releasing their icy grip, ravers are gearing up to fly down to Miami for the annual celebration of all things sun, fun, and clubs: Miami Music Week.
The 2017 music madness runs March 21-26, offering hundreds of pool parties, label showcases, warehouse takeovers, and sunrise afterhours featuring just about every superstar DJ from across the globe.

As always, Miami Music Week is a marathon, not a sprint, so proper planning is essential to make sure you’re still shuffling your feet by Day 5. With so many reveling options to pick from, you’re sure to be overwhelmed by decision fatigue with even a cursory glance. Fret not, however, as DJ Times is here to help you tune out the static and peep the best this year’s Miami Music Week has to offer.
We’ll be updating this list in the coming days, so stay tuned for the latest and greatest MMW offerings.

Tuesday, 3/21
Basement Miami
Hot Creations’ founding fathers are heating up the early portion of MMW with their third annual edition of their Basement Miami team-up. For those uninitiated with the club, expect bowling alleys, disco balls, and quirky retro pastiche to contrast nicely with the pair’s sizzling tech-house scorchers.

Wednesday, 3/22
Trade
German DJ/producer Martin Buttrich will take the wraps off his Collaborator Vol. 1 project on March 31 with the release of a 12-track LP featuring productions from his close friends and associates, but he’s previewing the vibes of it during MMW with a mid-week celebration at Trade. The night will feature a live performance from album collaborator Guti, with Davide Squillace, Harvard Bass, Soul Clap, and Buttrich himself slated to take to the decks as well.

Thursday, 3/23
The Raleigh
Techno’s reigning queen of drums is bringing her MoodDAY party back to South Beach for a poolside soiree featuring some hefty talents. Moudaber will be joined by Sasha, Martin Buttrich, Fur Coat, and Ben Hoo this year for a 10-hour odyssey that’s sure to sufficiently amp you up for the devilishly busy Thursday evening offerings.

Townhouse Hotel
Hot Natured and Pleasure State vocalist Anabel Englund is bringing her zoo-inspired throwdown—founded with friends Human Life, Matt Ossentjuk, and Mont Blvck—to Miami for its southeast debut, promising breezy vibes and slick tech-house groovers from its founders, Jesse Perez, SantĆ©, and more. Our advice? Make sure to wear your best wild-themed attire.

Virginia Key
One of this year’s most exciting Miami Music Week debuts actually lays off the beaten path of the usual South Beach, instead taking place a few minutes away on the beaches of Virginia Key. Boasting 14-hours of music, four separate environments, and a lineup that includes heavy hitters like Art Department, Ellen Allien, Steve Lawler, and Way Out West, Rapture is poised to make quite a bit of a noise amongst the numerous options that day.

FLOYD
San Francisco’s leading techno foursome is bringing a special edition of their famed party to an intimate speakeasy environment, taking Brooklyn underground dons Mike Servito and Kim Ann Foxman along for the ride. Expect dancefloor bombs and some seriously #lewks at this one-off.

Space Miami
Jamie Jones’ revered music marathon is headed back to Miami for its perennial MMW showing, this time trading in the warehouses of the Wynwood district in favor of Downtown’s clubbing institution Space Miami. Promising 20 (!) hours of music—including performances from Green Velvet, Danny Tenaglia, Stacey Pullen, Skream, Patrick Topping, and more—and outdoor vibes courtesy of the legendary Terrace, Paradise is once again promising to serve as the week’s crown jewel.

Do Not Sit On The Furniture
House, Detroit techno, and acid’s legends—Todd Terry, Kevin Saunderson, and DJ Pierre—will lead the Friday festivities at Miami’s best-named venue. Expect a smorgasbord of 808s at this Roland-powered party, and be sure to catch the piping hot booty-tech that Dirtybird’s bearded bass maestro Will Clarke will be bringing to club.

Saturday, 3/25
TBA
For its 12th annual session, Damian Lazarus and Crosstown Rebels’ 24-hour clubbing marathon is going bigger than ever before with a top-to-bottom lineup of some of the best talent in the underground dance realm. Art Department, Pan-Pot, Ellen Allien, DJ Sneak, and Bill Patrick represent just the tip of the iceberg, with a cavalcade of other DJ and live acts set to play the mystical party’s multiple environments.

Delano Beach Club
America’s Best DJ 2016 Claude VonStroke is bringing his radio show back to Miami for its sophomore installment, bringing a few of his favorite acts beyond the greater Dirtybird umbrella. Denney, Jesse Rose, and Solardo will be on-hand for the fun, but ladies Honey Dijon, Kim Ann Foxman, and J.Phlip are the ones we simply cannot wait to catch under the Miami sun.

Trax Records announces charity compilation

Trax Records announces charity compilation "I Love NY' drops on 31 March in aid of the charity Youth Communication"

Story by : internationaldjmag.com

Album features tracks from scene veterans and up-and-coming young talent alike
The end of the month will see the release of I Love NY, a 14-track compilation on Trax Records that's being released to raise funds for Youth Communications, a young people's charity based in Chicago which publishes the USA's longest-running teen newspaper, and offers arts, literacy and mentorship programmes to underprivileged urban kids in a bid to break the vicious cycle of poverty, drug use and gang culture.

The relationship between Trax Records, the world's first-ever house music record label, and New York City goes back a long way. Trax co-founder and current president Rachael Cain, AKA Screamin' Rachael, moved to the city in the late 80s and played a key role in bringing the sound of Chicago house music - which derived, of course, from the garage style that house godfather Frankie Knuckles' friend and mentor Larry Levan had pioneered a year or two earlier - to the Big Apple, which would result in NY becoming another key city on the house map.

But while the heritage may be long, there's nothing backwards-looking about the new comp, which has been curated by New York DJ and Trax artist Tyler Stone [pictured], and which features "a collection of bassy, bitchy New York house, from deep house to minimal tech". Artists involved range from veteran Village Voice journalist Michael Musto, who's documented the NY club scene on a weekly basis since 1984 and who makes his vinyl debut here with the Stone-produced I Got Ur Back, to current scene faves such as tech-house duo TradeCraft and Battle Hymn resident Michael Magnan.

Announcing the album, Rachael Cain said: "It's no secret that Chicago is having tremendous problems with teen gang warfare. Youth Communication has made a positive difference to so many of these kids, but now it's in crisis and needs funding to continue. Tyler suggested an album to help and so many of the great NYC DJs like Johnny Dynell who I've known for years stepped up to the plate! The focus of Youth Communication has always been about journalism, so Michael Musto as an artist on the album is perfect; a journalist whose song I Got Ur Back seems to sum up our mission. I hope the world sees the urgency for these kids and will buy the album. I want Chicago teens to realise that Youth Communications, Trax and our sister city NYC have Got Ur Back!"

I Love NY is out on Trax Records on 31 March

WHO IS THE BIGGEST DJ CREW!

Soundcloud FINALLY Playing Nice

Story By (http://themixsyndicate.com/opinion)

[OPINION] Is Soundcloud FINALLY Playing Nice to DJs?
Last year, Soundcloud burned the entire DJ community when it implemented a system that removed DJ mixes, remixes, edits, bootleg (and even original works) for violating copyrights. It was a system that was unbelievably unfair to the DJ who only used Soundcloud to promote his/her talent. No money was being made by the DJ by posting their mixes, remixes, edits, bootlegs, etc.

Many big name DJs/Producers even had their accounts DELETED for breaking this “rule”, which led to an exodus of DJs from the service. So when the Soundcloud CEO announced back in December that DJ mixes will no longer be taken down for copyright infringement, we collectively said “yeah right”. I reluctantly took the plunge back to Soundcloud to test their “new” system.

I must say that after a month back on Soundcloud, none of my previously removed mixes have been flagged. Does that mean we ALL should return to Soundcloud? Not in my opinion, especially if you’ve found another way to promote your mixes. But it does appear that Soundcloud saw the errors in their ways. Only time will tell….

CARL CRAIG SPEAKS OUT ON NEW DETROIT PRESSING PLANT COLLABORATION

Story By (https://djmag.com/news)

Carl Craig has revealed details of his upcoming release via new Detroit vinyl pressing plant, Third Man Records.
Founded by The White Stripes frontman, Jack White, the factory opened last weekend (25th February), and marks the first new vinyl plant to open in the city since 1965.
Craig is one of the first artists to have a release made at the Third Man factory (alongside Derrick May), and spoke out on Twitter about the experience, explaining how it marks "the first time in over 10 years where I can have vinyl within 15 days of mixing and mastering."

*carl craig ✔@carlcraignet Some insight on the @thirdmanrecords collab: both tracks conceived and mixed early this month and went straight to press. 1:18 PM - 28 Feb 2017

*carl craig ✔@carlcraignet with this @thirdmanrecords collab, this is the 1st time in over 10 yrs where i can have vinyl within 15 days of mixing and mastering 1:20 PM - 28 Feb 2017

*carl craig ✔@carlcraignet when i started my career, pressing vinyl felt as spontaneous as creating the music pressed to it. i miss that. 1:24 PM - 28 Feb 2017

The veteran DJ also explained that the record is only available at Third Man's Detroit store, and expressed his disdain for unscrupulous Discogs sellers.

*carl craig ✔@carlcraignet The only seller is @thirdmanrecords No other distribution permitted https://twitter.com/seriomdm/status/836622551249993729 … 11:48 AM - 28 Feb 2017

Dutchman Benny Rodrigues also chimed in on the conversation, suggesting they push for a wax copy of his ROD alias' remix of 'Poi Et Pas' (released under Craig's 69 moniker), to which the Detroit man responded "Let's make it happen."
