Lil Wayne Settles $20 Million Lawsuit Over 'Lollipop'
By Vibe
After an ongoing battle with former producer Darius "Deezle" Harrison over his song "Lollipop," Lil Wayne and Cash Money have brought the case to a close and settled out of court.
Deezle first filed the lawsuit against the Young Money rapper after the release of Tha Carter III. The suit claimed that the label failed to pay him for his work on "Lollipop," as well as other songs from the album and requested $20 million of the $70 million in sales the album brought in.
According to TMZ, while Weezy wasn't initially planning to cough up the cash, both parties have now reached an agreement and the case has been dismissed. -- Jazmine Gray

Guru’s Hip-Hop/Jazz Presence Still Missed on the Second Anniversary of His Passing
by Jake Crates (AllHipHop News) Today (April 19) marks the two-year anniversary of Keith Edward “Guru” Elam’s passing, after succumbing to complications from cancer. The Hip-Hop icon and pioneer was 48.
Coining himself as the “King of Monotone” and widely regarded by critics as the artist/producer who spearheaded the Hip-Hop and Jazz fusion movement with his critically-acclaimed series Jazzmatazz, Guru’s influence can be seen across the genre.
Guru formed Gang Starr in the late 1980s with DJ Mike Dee and a host of others. Disputes would later disband the group, leading him to partner with DJ Premier in 1989, who he signed a deal with under Chrysalis.
Over the course of Guru’s career, he reached the Billboard charts several times, peaking at #5 for top Independent Albums with his project BaldHead Slick & da Click. He also reached as high as #8 on the R&B Charts with Jazzmatazz Vol3: Streetsoul.
In 1995, Guru’s single ”Watch What You Say,” hit the charts with his song peaking at #13 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi Singles Sales.
Despite an illustrious career that includes six critically-acclaimed projects with Gang Starr, including two gold albums Moment of Truth (1998) and Full Clip: A Decade of Gang Starr (1998), Guru’s final days were unfortunately marred by controversy.
After suffering from cardiac arrest and subsequently falling into a coma, Guru’s then production partner Solar, claimed in March 2010 that Guru awoke and wrote a letter to fans. Despite this claim, Guru’s family denied that he ever regained consciousness after falling into a coma, ascertaining that the letter was fraudulently written by Solar.
Guru’s family would eventually make their own public statements in the Boston Globe and other publications, while longtime Gang Starr producer, DJ Premier, shared his grief over losing Guru in his own public statement:
“I’VE BEEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON A LETTER SPEAKING ILL OF ME WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY WRITTEN BY GURU IN HIS DYING DAYS. ALL I WILL SAY ABOUT IT IS THAT OUR TIME TOGETHER WAS BEAUTIFUL, WE BUILT A HIP HOP LEGACY TOGETHER, AND NO ONE CAN RE-WRITE HISTORY OR TAKE AWAY MY LOVE FOR HIM. ONE THING I WOULD NEVER DO IS PLAY AROUND WITH THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS LIFE,” DJ Premier told fans in an excerpt from his official statement to the public.
“I WILL CELEBRATE GURU’S LIFE… I WILL HONOR HIS MEMORY… I WILL GRIEVE WITH THE ELAM FAMILY OVER HIS UNTIMELY DEATH… I WILL REMEMBER THE GANG STARR FOUNDATION AND ALL OF THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF GANG STARR WHO CAME BEFORE ME – WE ALL KNOW EACH OTHER”
Solar’s e-mail and Twitter accounts were subsequently hacked, revealing a number of personal conversations, images, and damaging information. At the time, a blog named F*ckSolar.com surfaced, dedicated to exposing Solar, who was accused of barring family members access to Guru during his illness. In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com last week, Solar said he has spent the past two years reorganizing his life.
Guru, a graduate of Atlanta’s Morehouse University and former student of Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, would have turned 51 this July. He leaves behind a massive catalog of solo and collaborative works that continue to be celebrated, especially by the Hip-Hop and Jazz communities, and was an activist for HIV/AIDS awareness and youth issues.

LEP Bogus Boys Explain Success, Working On New Movie
by Jake Crates (Allhiphop.com)
Moonie and Count of the LEP Bogus Boys took the time to speak with AllHipHop.com about their recent rise to the forefront of Hip-Hop playlists across the net, their feelings about the Chicago hip-hop scene and an upcoming movie.
“We just working hard, staying focused and staying sucka free at the same time,” Moonie told AllHipHop.com in the exclusive interview.
Repping for Chicago’s South Side that they call the “lower end of the city,” the Bogus Boys embody the rugged “24th Street going all the way up to the hundreds and two-hundred streets” of the Windy City.
Influenced by N.W.A., Tupac, Scarface and the Ghetto Boys, the Bogus Boys still maintain a studio where they first started in Englewood, where fellow residents Jennifer Hudson and Chicago Bull Derrick Rose also grew up.
“We basically just rapping about our environment, our studio is in the heart of Englewood, in the middle of the city. As soon as you walk out the door, its action,” Count told AllHipHop.com. “We basically are influenced by the last six months of our lives, but we did grow up listening to gangsta music.”
The LEP Bogus Boys are confident with their place in Chicago music, even though the city has produced notables like Kanye West, Twista, Lupe Fiasco, Common and the Cool Kids.
The group is a part of a batch of new artists like Rockie Fresh, King Louie, and Chief Keef, who are building a buzz beyond the city.
“I mean the Chicago sound, to be honest has just developed itself, you know we have different accents and slangs and different things so our sounds, you can tell it isn’t mimicking anyone else’s,” Count explained to AllHipHop.com. “We are fitting in and we just talking about whats going on in Chicago, and we setting the standard to tell you the truth.”
“A lot of people you hear, like the most previous rap that you heard from Chicago, bigger artists aren’t touching on things that we are touching on,” Moonie explained of the different between The LEP Bogus Boys and other Chicago rappers.
“I think that’s what makes our story that much interesting.” Moonie said. “People are like, ‘Hold on, Kanye don’t really speak about the gangsta s**t, Twista don’t neither, or Common and even Lupe don’t neither.’ People are like, ‘damn the stuff that we are really hearing about Chicago is really real,’ and that makes the story that much better for us to tell it.”
In addition to their careers as rappers, the self described “black mobsters” are making their own movies and are planning the release of Bogus Boys in the coming months.
“Our movement is organized, how we move and how we take care of our business, and of course we got the no snitchin’ policy. Its consequences and repercussions around here man. So you know what I’m saying man, we black mobsters, we don’t have to give you no story straight out of Scarface and the Godfather man, y’all seen that movie already,” Moonie told AllHipHop.com.
The duo creates their own treatments for their music videos and movies by recreating real life experiences.
“We basically have come up with our own treatments, that ‘Trading Places’ video is a true story man, that s**t be happening, that ain’t out of no movie so it ain’t hard to reenact it and just film it,” Moonie said
Having recently worked with Kanye, the LEP Bogus Boys also continue to work with the Justice League, and several other producers for their project, Don’t Feed the Killaz 4, a street project to be released before their official release on a yet to be named label.

by AHH Staff (allhiphop.com)
We already know that the ex-Big Tymer, Mannie Fresh, is down with the G.O.O.D. Music family and team based on photos and videos that have hit the ‘Net over the past few weeks from the London recording sessions of the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album, but is an official signing in the works?
In a recent interview with HipHopDX, it would appear so, according to the the man who has produced over 30 Hot 100 singles in his career. Check out the excerpts below:
“Well, we working that out. I’m kind of funny about signing with people. Dude, I’ve been through so much. And I’m not saying I think Kanye is a bad person, but I can’t tell you what that is right now. It’s really on me, and what space I’m in. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t do it, but it’s gotta be something that makes sense for me.”
When asked about any formal offers or an “extending of the hand”, Mannie said:
“I can’t really say if [there was]. It’s one of them things where – Let me just put it like this, Kanye is kinda mysterious about the things that he do. And I can’t really let no cats out the bag. I’m sorry to give you an answer like that, but I can’t really say what’s in the works. Y’all just gotta wait to see what happens.”
This can only be a good thing for both parties, so keep your fingers crossed!

Posted by ChasinDatPaper (thisis50.com)
With the big game just a week away the time is right for fans to make their picks on who will win Super Bowl 46.
The New York Giants (12-7) are led by quarterback Eli Manning, who threw for 4933 yards and 29 touchdowns this season with 16 interceptions.
The New England Patriots (15-3) are led by quarterback Tom Brady. Brady threw for 5235 yards and 39 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.
The Patriots defense has allowed 21.4 points per game, forced 34 turnovers while sacking the oppositions quarterback 40 times.
On The flip side, the Giants defense has given up 25 points per game, forced 31 turnovers and gotten to the other team's quarterback 48 times.
In the coaching department both teams are more than solid. With a slight edge going to the Patriots. Bill Belichick has coached the Patriots to five Super Bowls, coming away with three rings.
Tom Coughlin of the Giants has led them to only one Super Bowl in his eight years as head coach for them, but it was an epic win over the Patriots in Super Bowl 42. The underdog Giants beat the Patriots 17-14 to prevent the Pats from going undefeated that season.
All the talking is almost done now. Both teams are making their final preparations for the game that will be played on Sunday, February 5 at 6:20 PM ET. It will air live on NBC.
The Patriots are 3-point betting favorites in Las Vegas.

Producer Cardiak Talks New Rick Ross Album “God Forgives, I Don’t”; Working with Kanye
by jakecrates
(AllHipHop News) Georgia born/South Jersey bred producer Cardiak recently caught up with AllHipHop.com to gave an update on his most recent work.
Cardiak launched his career with the song “Start it Up” by Lloyd Banks ft Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, Fabolous and Ryan Leslie.
Since then, Cardiak has been busy putting in work, most recently landing his second hit with “600 Benz,” featuring Wale and Rick Ross.
“I’ve been producing since 2008, but my success didn’t really pop off until I reached out to G-Unit and ‘Start it Up,’ with Lloyd Banks came out,” Cardiak told AllHipHop.com. “I just played the internet on Twitter and Facebook, just reaching out to A&Rs, remained humble, remained consistent and I really don’t talk much. I just thank God for all my success.”
The Willingborough, NJ producer is now consistently working with some of the top artists in the game.
In addition to contributing to Rick Ross’ upcoming official album God Forgives I Don’t, Cardiak is working with Fabolous on Loso’s Way 2, while securing work with G-Unit and Kid Ink.
“I got two joints on there from what he told me, both of the beats are mad different, and one of them is soul sample type joint, the other one is a some left field type shit, I’m just waiting for it to come out. I’ve been working with Fab on Loso’s Way 2, G-Unit, 50 Cent and Banks.”
Interestingly enough, while Cardiak’s music often sounds like anthems that were produced for arena’s, the producer has quite a small pre-production set up, to make his huge sounding hits.
“It really doesnt matter what you use these days as long as you got a talent.”
Cardiak’s production aesthetics come from his experiences with Kanye West in the studio.
“Well, you know he was on ‘Start it Up’ and I had the opportunity to work with him on ‘Watch the Throne,’ album. Unfortunately I didn’t make the album, but it was still a great experience, because I was in the studio with him. he’s real energetic and it even made me step my whole sh*t up working with Kanye,” Cardiak recalled.

Websites Go Offline To Protest Proposed SOPA & PIPA Internet Censorship Bills
Posted by ChasinDatPaper (thisis50.com)
Thousands of websites, including some of the most popular, are going dark today to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act, a bill which is designed to thwart copyright infringement but that Web experts warn could threaten the functionality of the Internet.
Encyclopedia giant Wikipedia, popular news-sharing site reddit, browser pioneer Mozilla, photo-sharing favorite Twitpic and even ICanHazCheezburger.com are blocking access to content throughout Wednesday, symbolizing what the bill may allow content creators to do to sites they accuse of copyright infringement. Other websites, including Google, are expressing solidarity with the protests by featuring anti-SOPA content on home pages.
The online protests are being joined by a physical demonstration in New York City, where thousands of representatives from the city's tech industry plan to demonstrate outside the offices of Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), co-sponsors of the Senate version of SOPA, beginning at 12:30 p.m. As pressure has mounted, both have expressed willingness to compromise.
SOPA would give both the government and major corporations the power to shut down entire websites accused of copyright infringement with neither a trial nor a traditional court hearing. The legislation is aggressively backed by Hollywood movie studios and major record labels, along with several major news providers, including Fox News and NBC-Universal, which have largely shied away from coverage of the bill.
The burst of opposition to SOPA and its Senate companion, Protect IP (or PIPA, for short), has caught many lawmakers, who thought they were endorsing a fairly non-controversial anti-piracy bill with strong corporate support, off guard. Senate co-sponsors of the bill regrouped on Tuesday, huddling in the Capitol with major industry backers of the bill.
In December, HuffPost reported that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), a Protect IP co-sponsor with deep ties to both Hollywood and the technology industry, thought disputes between two of her most prominent corporate constituencies had been worked out. After that story ran, Feinstein attempted to broker a compromise, calling both tech companies and film studios.
Walt Disney Co. President and CEO Bob Iger declined the invitation on behalf of content providers. "Hollywood did not feel that a meeting with Silicon Valley would be productive at this time," said a spokesperson. The meeting took place with only tech companies present. Feinstein, once a reliable vote for the existing version of Protect IP, is now working hard to amend the bill, according to Senate Democratic aides.
But finding common ground is more difficult in this case than in most intra-corporate squabbles, because the two sides -- or powerful elements within them, at least -- have largely irreconcilable world views. One senior Senate aide said that the technology side consistently refuses to specify precise changes they want to the bill. Indeed, improving the bill would be counterproductive if the ultimate goal is killing it outright -- which it certainly is for many elements of the anti-SOPA coalition.
"That's a high-stakes risk," said the senior aide, "because if they don't have 41 votes, then what?"
By pitting nearly the entire tech industry against corporate Capitol Hill insiders from Hollywood, SOPA has prompted a tremendous wave of lobbying in Washington, accompanied by a flood of campaign contributions ahead of the 2012 elections. More than 1,000 lobbyists are currently registered to juice lawmakers on the bill.
The proposed legislation has startled tech experts and free speech advocates, who warn that the anti-piracy tactics envisioned by the bill would bring about widespread censorship of legitimate content and hamper important cybersecurity measures.
"The solutions are draconian. There’s a bill that would require [Internet service providers] to remove URLs from the Web, which is also known as censorship last time I checked," said Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt during a November speech.
The online blackout protests are rankling the Motion Picture Association of America, a lobbying group for the five biggest American film studios, which has lost significant support for its favorite bill in Washington over the past few months. MPAA Chairman Chris Dodd, a former Democratic senator from Connecticut and close friend of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada), ripped the blackout in a Tuesday blog post, which tech advocates view as evidence that Hollywood is threatened by the effort.
"Some technology business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns," wrote Dodd , who represents News Corp., Time-Warner, Sony and Disney. "It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today."
"This is a signal that Hollywood is really rattled by these protests and worried about where this bill is heading," said Josh Levy, Internet campaign director for FreePress.org, a nonprofit media watchdog group.

Hip-Hop Rumors: NO I.D. Refused to Work with Biggie and Big Pun Because of Common?
by Sydney Lace (ALLHIPHOP.COM)
Super producer NO I.D. turned down the opportunity to work with Biggie, Big Pun, and Ghostface Killah, all out of loyalty to Common! What a dunce! The producer recently revealed the mishap in a recent interview with XXL magazine. Read what he said below:
“After Resurrection I was getting calls for people to do work with me and I was turning it down,” “I got a call that Biggie wanted to hear some beats, Ghostface [Killah] and Big Pun. I’m like, Nah, I produce for Common. This is like Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth. At that time I didn’t even conceptualize trying to make beats, or produce for other people. It wasn’t even in my mind. I viewed myself as part of a group.”
Man, imagine Biggie over a NO I.D. beat! That would have been some straight ear candy!
